Our Library & Gallery is not just Awabakal-focused (the Awabakal are the Traditional Owners of the Newcastle region). We have rich resources and intriguing displays about Aboriginal culture and language nationwide. We also have books and language education resources for sale.

Extensive Library
We have a public access library with 2,500+ books (including some very old and rare books) and 15,000+ digital books - all focused on Aboriginal culture, language and issues. While we are not a lending library, we can help if you need copies made of selected material. Perfect for students doing Aboriginal Studies assignments or for those who are just interested in learning about Aboriginal Australia

Rare Printed Materials & Artefacts
Along with our collection of old and rare books, we also have a collection of old photographs, rare prints and sports memorabilia Our artefacts collection includes: didgeridoos, battle axes, spears, woomeras (spear thrower), grinding stones, digging sticks, coolomons, clapsticks, carvings and emu eggs. Our staff are on hand to explain the cultural significance beind each piece.
